Position Overview

The Kurdistan Center for Arts and Culture (KCAC) is seeking a highly organized and culturally engaged Director of Translation to lead our translation and publications efforts. This is a hybrid administrative-editorial role, ideal for someone who understands both the art of translation and the logistics of publishing. The position involves managing the translation process while also playing a strategic role in how our work is distributed both locally and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate all literary and translation projects commissioned by the organization.
  • Identify and recruit skilled writers and translators from all dialects of Kurdish.
  • Review and edit translated texts to ensure quality and fidelity to the original.
  • Develop and execute a publications strategy that balances local and international distribution goals.
  • Cultivate relationships with international publishers, draft proposals, and pursue publishing opportunities abroad.
  • Manage print production for locally distributed materials, including liaison with printers and booksellers.
  • Maintain a long-term vision for the economic sustainability of the translation and publication department.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in translation, editorial work, or publishing is preferred.
  • Strong administrative and project management skills
  • Familiarity with Kurdish literature, both contemporary and historical.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage relationships with translators, authors, and publishing partners.
  • Fluency in Kurdish and English required; additional languages a plus.
